abstract

background uterine leiomyoma (uls) is the most common gynecological tumor and a significant health concern for many women .the interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (il-1ra) is a naturally occurring cytokine inhibiting interleukin- 1 (il-1) activity by binding to the il-1 receptors without signal transduction. objectives the aim of this study was to investigate the association between interleukin-1 receptor antagonist gene variable number of tandem repeat (vntr) polymorphism and uls in women of the south- east of iran. patients and methods a total number of 99 patients with leiomyoma and 102 controls were studied. genotyping of il-1ra (vntr) polymorphism was determined by gel electrophoresis after pcr amplification. frequency of alleles and genotypes in patients and control group was statistically analyzed using χ2 test or fisher exact test. results the frequency of alleles 1, 2 and 3 of il-1ra vntr polymorphism were %71, %27 and %22 in control group and %74, %20 and %6 in the uls patients, respectively and there were no significant differences between these two groups. no statistically significant differences were observed between the frequency of il-1ra genotypes in the study and control groups. conclusions this study showed that 86bp vntr polymorphism of il-1ra gene is not associated with leiomyoma in the studied population.

Association of Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Gene 86bp VNTR Polymorphism with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in South East of Iran

Article history: Received: 20 July 2013 Accepted: 24 Aug 2013 Available online: 15 Oct 2013 ZJRMS 2014; 16(12): 51-54 Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease with unknown etiology. Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) is naturally occurring cytokine that inhibits interleukin-1 (IL-1) activity by binding to the IL-1 receptors without signal transduction. The...

Lack of Association between Somatotropin Receptor Gene Polymorphism and Birth Weight of Iranian Indigenous Sistani Cattle

The objective of the present study was to determine polymorphism within the promoter region of somatotropin receptor genes in indigenous Sistani cattle (Bos indicus) and associations between this polymorphism and breeding value of birth weight. The pedigree structure was included by considering 1173 animals with 600 progeny birth weight data obtained from a Zhark breeding station in Sistan and ...

Lack of association between an interleukin-1 receptor antagonist gene polymorphism and ulcerative colitis.

BACKGROUND Recently, the association of a polymorphism in the gene coding for the anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-1 receptor antagonist with ulcerative colitis has been reported. This was interpreted as a possible genetic predisposition for severity of the inflammatory response. AIMS To examine this polymorphism in a southern German population. SUBJECTS The study included 234 healthy...

association between interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (il1rn) variable number of tandem repeats (vntr) polymorphism and pulmonary tuberculosis.

macrophages and t-lymphocytes are involved in immune response to mycobacterium tuberculosis. macrophage produces interleukin (il)-1 as an inflammatory mediator. il-1 receptor antagonist (il1-ra) is a natural antagonist of il-1 receptors. in this study we aimed to examine the possible association between the variable number of tandem repeats (vntr) of the il-1 receptor antagonist (il1rn) gene an...

Lack of Association between ctla-4 A49G Polymorphism and Vitiligo

Background: Vitiligo is an acquired skin disorder that selectively destroys melanocytes in epidermis with an unknown etiology.   Objective: To investigate the exon 1 A49G polymorphism of cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen-4 (ctla-4) gene in vitiligo patients.   Methods: The A49G polymorphism was detected by Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method in 101...

Lack of Association between Promoter Gene Polymorphism (-318 C/T) and Multiple

Multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system is believed to have a T cell-mediated autoimmune etiology. The cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA-4) gene is a strong candidate for the involvement in autoimmune diseases. To examine the genetic association of the CTLA-4 gene locus with MS, in a case-control design, we analyzed (-318 C/T) sin...
